Industrial Revolutionaries, The Harris Museum and Art Gallery

Earlier this year we were appointed to create a major new exhibition exploring 150 years of Preston's influence on industrial and social change brought to life through characters of the time. The exhibition content included a wide range of objects - from portraits, major loans and key items from the Harris collection, some of which were newly conserved and on display for the first time.

With a focus on the human story, our creative approach integrates content, environmental and interpretive design. Objects are shown in context to how they may have been used or seen, historic film footage gives a rich backdrop to large scale artefacts and throughout the space sound and structure work together to impart a sense of discovery.

Industrial Revolutionaries was delivered through a close working partnership between with the client, the production team at Leach Colour and ourselves. In a similar way we have recently completed a collaborative project with Leach Colour and interpretive consultant Carolyn Lloyd Brown, to design and implement interpretation, way finding and mapping for phase 1 of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Sites, Discover the Extraordinary project. This has included working with individual stakeholders such as The National Trust and Geevor Tin Mine to establish a design approach that meets the WHS brand guidelines and also reflects the personalities of each site and the unique nature of their own heritage.

Engaging, exciting and informing our interpretation and exhibition works covers social, industrial and natural history. Using a range of media, we create accessible and thought-provoking interpretive displays for a wide visitor profile, imparting a sense of discovery and encouraging repeat visits.
